"People Power!"

I had no idea October was National Filipino American month ever since freakin 1988! I feel so ashamed that i have been in involved in PCN have done filipino dancing since like little without knowing this. Did you know this?

Lately, I have been so interested in filipino/filipino americans after reading the book - which is on my myspace blog. I just have to vent!

I will admit I am those people who made fun of FOBS, but after hearing testimonies and stories of filipino immigrants, I feel embarassed. It is so shameful that I made fun of my own people, we are all supposed to be a family supporting one another, instead we decide to make fun of FOBS. My parents are FOBS and my dad likes to remind that everytime I used to make fun of FOBS. And it got me thinking as to why I did that? Who the heck instilled the negative notion about FOBS? Asian Avenue? Society? I honestly cannot think of any bad that have done. We sit around making fun of their accent or the way they dress... was is their choice? Instead of shunning them we should be helping them... they have moved across the world for a better life, to be with their family and most importantly for a better education. In the filipino society, families always talk about the great life here in United States and the freedom we get... they save up all their money... for what? To be labeled as an immigrant, brown/yellow skinned, ignorant, uneducated, mail order bride. We should all stick up for one another, not put each other down. Yes it may be hard to change, but just take little steps... if you meet someone from a foreign country, ignore all that you hear about that ethnicity and BE GENUINE!

On a brighter note, a Filipino teen activist is running for the California 48th District Assembly - Lucilla Esguerra, 19. Can you believe that? I am so envious. Here's the article, read on http://news.newamericamedia.org/news/view_article.html?article_id=e486bc7d0db94dbe0f94af1ea9dcb8e8&from=rss

Sometimes society disappoints me!
Can someone recommend a good biography on Malcom X!?!!
